Writers, when people ask what you do for a living, do you admit you're a writer? Because I avoid answering or lie about it. Like you can't just say that, can you? To a total stranger?

No one here is having a good time tbh! (I've done the math and I'm going to start jobhunting in July -- assuming it's going to take several months to land something again -- my last contracted book is due Nov 1 and then after that I think it may be The End for ye olde publishing experiment!)
was just reading an interview with a writer who said, in essence, that they have a 2nd book idea but don't know if they'll write it bc they don't know if they'll make any money on it. and this made me blisteringly sad. everyone needs to eat & pay rent but I want to read the books ppl WANT to write!

I’m terrified. I’ve been jobhunting fiercely in Washington state to get out of Ohio. My photography business dried up after the election. I have to get out of here while I still can.
