Based jotego.

[MiSTer]
A patreon by Jotego. “Research work As more and more people are using AI to produce cores, I feel less pressure to publish new cores and more freedom to do research and validation work. We are re-evaluating how this work gets executed and we are adjusting our[sp] setup, including computers, arcade PCBs and the several FPGA platforms to execute a workflow with a higher standard of quality and accuracy.” “Some people have copied files from contributors while they were in the merge-queue of GitHub in order to get two minutes of fame. We will use a private GitHub project for contributors from now on. That way, they do not have their work exposed before it is merged into the main project.”

It why I don't touch the newer arcade cores. I know Jotego didn't vibecode The Simpsons or any of the CPS cores, so I'm good with what I've got.

Man, I’m hesitant in this vibe-coded era to give any creator too much credit in case something shitty about them comes out later, but it sure as shit seems like Jotego is putting in some real, honest effort to do things the right way in this era of slopcores from everyone else and their sister.
From the latest update from Jotego’s Patreon: “JTKCPU: back to the real board Konami's custom CPU sits at the heart of quite a few arcade favorites. This week I put the FPGA's JTKCPU through a major update based on measurements from a real Vendetta PCB. We ran instruction probes on the original 053248 chip, recording results, condition flags and timing, then used that evidence to revise the FPGA CPU. This was done using Wickerwaka's PicoROM.” “The research exposed previously unknown instruction encodings and several cases where the old model set flags incorrectly. A game can make a decision on one of those flags, so a small CPU detail can become a very visible difference on screen. This is all new information for the whole scene, FPGA and software emulation alike. This affects games already supported by JTCORES: Aliens, Crime Fighters, Gang Busters / Crazy Cop, Super Contra, Thunder Cross, Ajax / Typhoon, Haunted Castle, The Simpsons, Parodius DA!, Surprise Attack and Vendetta. They share JTKCPU in our cores, although the physical measurements were made on Vendetta's 053248 and there is an older Konami CPU variant that still needs its own checks.”

Good good! It wouldn’t surprise me that Jotego at least does his homework on the proper settings before he finalizes a core. He seems pretty thorough.

Je termine en toute urgence un dernier beta test sur Red Earth, pour validation finale, avant de retourner aider sur d'autres parties du projet avant ce week-end.

For those who know the game, this needs no introduction, for the rest: boot it up and just watch the art. Watch the use of color for the backgrounds, for the clothes... All that was hand drawn, no 3D models, no shading calculations, no prompts."
