In some fiction featuring yakuza organisations like... well, Like a Dragon series...you sometimes notice these small displays mounted on the walls of their offices. This is called a kamidana, a sacred object for enshrining Shinto gods.

También hay altares domésticos shinto (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamidana ) pero normalmente con dejarles ofrendas ya vale, a los kami no hace falta rezar demasiado.

It’s hard to see behind the stone torii, but I even have a mini kamidana gacha that is supposed to hold a mini ofuda in the back! (but I have never found one that fits…)
My friend got one that comes with a mini ema. Mine came with tiny trees.

Genuine sakaki leaves can sometimes be hard to come by, so other trees can be used as alternatives, but if you see leaves used in Shinto rituals and display, including kamidana, you can generally assume they are sakaki.

Even if you can't afford a big Kamidana, or acquire sacred items or materials from Japan just yet - I think it's good to start from the heart and have even just a space you can focus your prayers.
This was my very first Kamidana from 2011, just a little alcove in my bookshelf!

Even if you can't afford a big Kamidana, or acquire sacred items or materials from Japan just yet - I think it's good to start from the heart and have even just a space you can focus your prayers.

Well, new year, new me, or something. Finally ordered my main kamidana piece. Hopefully it arrives intact, it was expensive as hell to ship... 🥲

You still see plenty of shop keepers with kamidana in their businesses, for example. When children throw beans at someone with an Oni mask for setsubun, that’s participating in Shinto, even if it’s cultural instead of “deeply religious” in the Western way of looking at it

Yesterday at Shimogamo Shrine, I bought these two little crow friends! (Yes, I just called Yatagarasu a crow friend.) They’re now sitting on my shelf that holds my kamidana

My health and current meds kept me in bed for most of today, but my friends showered me with love. My kids showered me with gifts. And one of them was something I've wanted since I moved back to the US, a Kamidana.
I finally have a place to worship. What a beautiful day to be alive and loved.

I finally have my Shinto Kamidana set up, with Goshinmai from my local Konkokyo church.

Kamidana has also been vacated for the end of year. Old talismans and amulets are burned and replaced yearly.
Most return theirs slightly later than I do I think, but I’m used to returning mine before the new year in preparation for hatsumode, the first shrine visit of the new year.

Ive been meaning to offer sake to the kamidana for a while. But I found one recently that's fitting. I figured since a few life burdens have been eased that I hoped would be lifted before, I would celebrate with a little sake.

Moved the home altar table to another part of the house before I fully set up my offerings, since Kamidana aren't supposed to have anything underneath them.
Other than the shinkyo, which isn't a requirement, the setup is pretty much done!

Fuction wise it reminds me of these
If you set up a kamidana in a multifloor residential building. The thing to do is to have the kanji for cloud (雲) above it, to signify there’s nothing above the sacred space.
