What’s crazy is that the Eaton fire in Altadena, where there have actually been deaths, is in LA County FD’s jurisdiction, and LACFD has a straight white male chief. Nobody’s blaming him for that.

argonautphoto Sound up On the frontlines of the Palisades Fire in Mandeville Canyon (36 hours ago), I had the privilege of joining the Palin Fork Fire Crew from Ft. Bragg. This incredible team of incarcerated firefighters is part of the nearly 1,000 individuals currently battling wildfires across California. These firefighters, trained through the Conservation Fire Camp Program (a partnership between CDCR, CAL FIRE, and LACFD) voluntarily take on dangerous work to protect our communities. Their courage and skill were on full display as they cut protective lines through dense brush on near vertical hillsides braving rock and trees falling and the constant danger of flare ups, to shield homes from the advancing flames. Through this program, participants earn $5.80 to $10.24 per day, plus $1 per hour during emergencies -wages that highlight the systemic inequities these firefighters face. Despite their essential contributions, many encounter significant barriers to employment in firefighting after release, limiting their ability to build on the training and experience they've gained. Organizations like the @antirecidivismcoalition are working to change this. By advocating for fairer policies and providing support networks, ARC helps ensure that formerly incarcerated individuals have pathways to meaningful careers. A vehicle rammed into a crowd of people waiting to enter a nightclub along a busy boulevard in Los Angeles early Saturday, injuring 30 people. Victims were transported to local hospitals and trauma centers, according to Capt Adam Van Gerpen, public information officer for the LACFD.
