Linux From Scratch (LFS) je zvláštní distribuce pro pokročilé uživatele, kteří si podle detailního návodu mohou zkompilovat celý základní linuxový systém. Před dlouhou dobou jsme tu měli seriál o LFS, ale idea zůstává stále stejná. Na LFS pak navazuje BLFS (Beyond Linux From Scratch), který přidává další balíčky jako například xorg, GNOME, XFCE a další. V současnosti existují dvě varianty LFS: se SysVinit a se systemd. To se však podle včerejšího oznámení změní a zůstane jen varianta se systemd. Stávající LFS 12.4 zůstane jak ve verzi SysVinit tak systemd, ale nový LFS 13.0, který má vyjít kolem 1. března, bude již jen se systemd. Důvodem je stále větší závislost softwaru na systemd (například GNOME a KDE), velké vytížení vývojářů LFS, kteří to dělají ve volném čase a také současná nutnost testování ve dvou variantách LFS. I think kde and gnome should be removed from blfs and keep sysv blfs for whatever remains. but my opinion and 10$ gets you a coffee from the local shop...

A key change in this release is that LFS 13.0 is the first version available exclusively as a systemd edition, following the decision to discontinue the long-maintained SysVinit variant. Previous releases supported both init systems, but the maintainers opted to simplify maintenance and align with modern software that increasingly relies on systemd. In addition to the init system update, LFS 13.0 includes significant upgrades to core components. The release features binutils 2.46, glibc 2.42, and 36 updated packages compared to the previous stable version. The base system now uses Linux kernel 6.18.10 LTS, ensuring the build instructions reflect recent kernel releases. The maintainers report over 100 commits to the LFS book since the last stable release. Security-related updates were applied to packages such as glibc, coreutils, expat, Perl, Python, systemd, xz, and Vim.
