Hmm, let's see what we can find for LJN's X-Men... 🧵
If you're browsing the digital library, please share your favorite things you're finding! We don't even know 100% of what's in here and we want to know what excites you

what’s the worst video game you ever got as a kid? i still remember riding home with a copy of LJN’s X-MEN and being so excited and imagining how cool it would be. years later, i got Superman-64 for Christmas.

LJN's Space Chase was a slot car racing set that included Leader-1 and Crasher. Few images of it exist, either because it wasn't popular or because it was fragile and broke easily.

It was compatible with LJN's Power-Pak system and compatible with other of their slot car sets.

Had a conversation about the current state of emulators which spiraled into me trying LJN's Video Art in MAME. Even in emulation the controls are so bad you'd be lucky to draw anything coherent in it. Can't imagine the real hardware experience...

1985 commercial for LJN's Switch Bots with a familiar voice to Transformers fans. I had that tank but mine must have been a knockoff as it didn't spark😞

Is this also his only videogame appearance?

He sees what others can't, like for instance the fact that LJN's Jekyll & Hyde for the NES is a steaming pile of--

the gloomy video game nerd: hey guys. today i'd like to talk about ljn's venom for the gameboy. but this couch is so cozy. i'd rather just lay down for a bit.

i can't remember the last time i had fun playing a game.

LJN's a truly bad company, just like Caddicarus' arch enemy, Phoenix Games.

MEANWHILE, in the Patreon Zone, a video about a much less good game. Honestly, "much less good" seems like an understatement when talking about Beam and LJN's Back to the Future, but sometimes you just need to downplay tragedy: www.patreon.com/posts/nes-wo...

"...this hardcopy was created by LJN's in-house team for internal use and never intended for retail."

Internal use, eh?

As someone who grew up with the LJN's NES library and Atari 2600 Raiders of the Lost Ark and IBM games that straight up didn't work, seeing people say Shadow the Hedgehog and Billy Hatcher reminds me that the definition of "sucks total ass" is WILDLY varied from human to human.
To reach the highest stratum of video game nerd you have to become the strongest soldier for at least one game that sucks total ass, I speak from experience.

LJN's X-Men game was a childhood lesson in betrayal, disappointment, and injustice. Every kid who played that with a heart full of hope became a little more aware of what kind of world they lived in.

Worst game I ever played: LJN's Uncanny X-Men.

The contemporaneous Claremont/Silvestri comic was amazing and got me excited to play.

But this game just sucked. Bad controls, completely indistinguishable characters, ugly graphics that would of been underwhelming on the Atari 2600.

There was a sweet spot with licensed games in the mid-aughts. They weren’t meretricious garbage like LJN’s 16-bit games. But—and I’m not saying this is anybody else’s fault—modern AAA games siphon my spoons. X-Men Legends will never get remade and it’s almost everything I’d want in an X-Men game.

LJN's Switch Bots line consisted of a bunch of figures in various alt modes, although all the toys had insanely chibified designs, and almost all of them were not very good-looking in robot mode. The toys even combined for added value to variable levels of success.

Apropos of nothing:

Blade for Game Boy Color is a really nice mix of Double Dragon, Zelda 2 and LJN's The Punisher... but with Blade.
