That was a measure introduced by #LabourNEC when #JeremyCorbyn was challenged for the leadership, because he had packed the NEC with his people and it was thought he couldn't possibly get enough nominations.

In 1921, #RamsayMacDonald defeated #JRClynes the incumbent leader in a #LabourLeadershipElection, the only time a sitting #LabourLeader has ever been removed that way, in 1914 Ramsay MacDonald opposed #LabourNEC policy to enter #WWI and resigned as leader.

In fact #LabourParty rarely removes it's leader, the last time was when the #LabourNEC expelled #RamsayMacDonald for forming the #NationalGovernment in 1931 against their agreed position, #GeorgeLansbury resigned in 1935 because he opposed NEC policy on rearmament.

Or leading #LabourParty into #GE2029 as #Leaderbyrightofsiccession, which happened to #ClementAttlee at #GE1935, #GeorgeLansbury refused to accept a #LabourNEC decision and resigned suddenly just as #GeneralElection was being called, wasn't time to organise a #LabourLeadershipElection.
