i wonder what he'd think about the next president asserting that because he's the president he can do whatever he wants to the landmarked flair
Washington Sun: President Donald Trump wants the Oval Office declared a federal landmark so no one can take down the gilded accents he’s affixed to the walls.

Your average home renovation of a non-landmarked house gets way more thoughtful consideration than this

One thing that might reduce "vanity nominations" is to require landmarked properties to offer public tours one day per year.
I don't have any inside information but it appears this house was nominated to memorialize the owner's time here with his wife, now deceased. It's touching, actually. But it is also an abuse of the city's landmark preservation process which, one assumes, is intended to serve the public good.

This is one of those skills that’s so rare and important that it should get your dick landmarked by city hall

Because this building was not landmarked by July 2025, it is now subject to the new state law requiring owner consent. The owner does not agree with the designation. Seattle’s landmark staff are trying to undermine state law and say it still will be landmarked anyway, flat out denying state law

Over my dead body will this postmodern masterpiece be demolished. We so badly need stronger demolition protections on non-landmarked buildings in Chicago.

I don’t like the precedent this sets, that owners of (non-landmarked) homes along a landmarked street deserve special treatment.
This is just CM Kettle throwing a bone to homeowners. Conditions vary but the presence of large city-owned street trees here means front setbacks are very lightly forested. The amendment’s only practical purpose is to discourage development.

I really feel certain sites should be landmarked like historic buildings

A house in San Francisco covered in the painted faces of Latin rock artists was formally landmarked by the city. Its neighborhood has seen skyrocketing home prices and decades of redevelopment. n.pr/3T1LZGy
This house trumpets its history in the face of gentrification. Now it's a landmark

I live in a nondescript landmarked building and I'd have to go through fifteen layers of approval if I wanted to, like, change out my windows, but this fucker can just demolish a chunk of the WHITE HOUSE?

This is why @alexis4seattle.bsky.social's amendment to the SAFER Act is so important (and why it should be extended to include landmarked streets outside of historic districts).
All this effort was to build the most basic safety improvement at an intersection near an elementary school. Unfortunately, once a historic preservation group has power, they will fight to keep it.

The city of Seattle landmarked this. So tell your friends who visit not to miss this icon of the city

(Landmarking it prevents the proposal to build a new, better community center)

YES THIS IS AMAZING DO IT NOW. Also, it should include landmarked streets not necessarily located in historic districts (such as Queen Anne Boulevard, where the Landmarks Board rejected a fully funded safe routes to school project). @alexis4seattle.bsky.social
NEW: Alexis Mercedes Rinck has proposed an amendment to Rob Saka's SAFER Streets Act that would give the City Traffic Engineer explicit authority to implement street changes in historic districts (Pioneer Square, Pike Place) without getting the approval of the local boards.

What a day so far. Still to come details on the Kirov missile strike, but first overnight data from Ukraine.

We reached a landmarked 25,000 destroyed Russian APCs/combat vehicles.

Yesterday's amazing destruction of an Su-57 fighter jet is recorded & high numbers elsewhere too.

In Seattle, any site over 25 years old can be landmarked, without the owner’s consent, based on six broad criteria…
In Seattle, any person can nominate just about any building for historic landmark status — even without the consent of the building owner — which can delay or upend housing projects. State legislators may place guardrails on historic landmark programs.

We’ve found the dumbest example of historic preservation nimbyism possible. The zombie mall must be landmarked

A developer has been trying to build housing above the landmarked Sheridan and Griffin buildings for so long, the approval process itself may soon be eligible for historic preservation. (Their 16th meeting is on January 31st.)
