#Langstrothdale
Langstrothdale is one of the Yorkshire Dales’ hidden gems. Following the upper reaches of the River Wharfe, this beautiful valley is dotted with tiny hamlets including Hubberholme, Yockenthwaite and Beckermonds.

The name Langstrothdale comes from Old English and is generally translated as "long marsh" or "marshy ground", suggesting that early settlers saw the valley as a wet, boggy landscape shaped by the upper reaches of the River Wharfe.

Part one of the Dales Traverse. Starting at Kilnsey, before taking in Conistone, Kettlewell and Buckden Pike. Today's journey ended at Buckden where I'm staying overnight.

One of my favourite spots. Tucked away in Langstrothdale, on the north bank of the River Wharfe, Yockenthwaite is a tiny hamlet near Buckden. It is home to an interesting Bronze Age stone circle or more probably a ring cairn.

Staying with Langstrothdale. Situated on the north bank of the River Wharfe, Yockenthwaite is a hamlet near Buckden. From a a stone circle to a Bronze Age ring cairn and a 20th century sheepfold the 7 metre circle there has been the subject of much debate over the years.

A beautiful area Langstrothdale was once heavily wooded, and its upper northern reaches open moorland. It formed a royal hunting ground known as Langstrothdale Chase, or the Forest of Langstroth. In the early 17th century the dale passed

✨ Last year I visited Cowside. This was originally a poultiggery 🐓 🐷. The base a home for pigs and the top for hens. The pigs keep the hens warm in winter. A bit of vernacular gorgeousness from Cowside in Langstrothdale, Yorkshire Dales. Looked after by the Landmark Trust.
