20-30 mph winds today and still very dry around the #LeeFire, but winds will lighten a lot tomorrow as our upper trough moves out. Hoping that can help firefighters get a bit of a handle on this monster fire.

That front got the best of the #LeeFire overnight. Blew out to the south and grew by nearly 30,000 acres to an estimated 88,877 acres, preliminarily making it Colorado’s 6th largest fire.

Much of western Colorado is in Extreme Drought (D3), according to the August 7 @usdroughtmonitor update. Such conditions fuel large wildfires like the #LeeFire, making suppression harder and recovery slower. Building drought resilience is key.
