It's not my absolute favourite but I'd like to add as another rec #LegendOfZanghai for more male gaze historical interested newbie? It has this IndianaJones going China vibes, romance not too dominant, great acting, interesting characters and superb visuals
Imo wouldnt think too much about ep amount

To round us out, I've finished #LegendOfZangHai, and while I guess a shrine is not technically a tomb, there was a corpse in it, so I'll say it counts. Lol
I thought I also saw rumors that there could be a sequel series? The last episode did leave a little room for one. Guess we'll see!

Just to briefly say, #LegendofZanghai is really more of a vehicle for Xiao Zhan, with Zhang Jingyi only playing a supporting role
#BlossomsInAdversity is a much warmer & more human drama, in which she plays the main lead - taking charge of her family in challenging circumstances 👍

Historical dramas in particular often begin with a family massacre or the like, in which both male & female leads start out traumatised before seeking a path of vengeance - such as #StoryOfKunningPalace, #TheVendettaofAn & #LegendofZangHai, which all begin with MLs facing extremity

Or take more ‘serious’ historical dramas like #LegendofZanghai, #ThisThrivingLand or #LegendoftheMagnate, which have idol actors in lead roles: are they still idol dramas or serious dramas?

As my recent push for #LegendoftheFemaleGeneral at the expense of #LegendofZanghai indicates, I am not an unconditional fan of Xiao Zhan
But I don’t understand why someone would boycott his dramas just because of his fans?
Xiao Zhan is *not* his fans - he’s a human being who acts & sings

He’s the #LegendofZanghai director you championed 😊
How strange to make #MiYue *after* #Empresses - when the latter was already such a successful telling of the story
I wonder what factors were behind a virtual remake? (if it is a remake)

Your own challenge post reminded me of how good Huang Jue’s character - Zhuang Luyin - was in #LegendofZanghai. It was a strong portrayal 👍

I absolutely loved #ResidentPlaybook - it’s one of my dramas of the year so far! - but I’m mostly watching cdramas rn.
I’m obsessed with a current xianxia #Feud, & am enjoying a youth/family drama #AlwaysHome.
I’m just finishing #LegendofZangHai, &
5 eps in to mystery drama #SevenRelicsOfIllOmen.
