Stepping into Linuxland has been like going back to the nineties, but the good parts where the people who made your software were nerds and goofs, when they gave the programs silly names and showed up in wizard hats.
(The bad parts were the gatekeeping, the racism, and my god the misogyny. My god.)

There are about as many ways to configure a Linux system as there are to order a pizza. Normally "if you don't like, make your own" is a way to terminate an argument. In Linuxland... people really will just make their own.
Other popular desktops are Gnome, xFCE, Cinnamon, etc.

There are about as many ways to configure a Linux system as there are to order a pizza. Normally "if you don't like, make your own" is a way to terminate an argument. In Linuxland... people really will just make their own.

Adobe Reader. I need to annotate PDFs and I have run into problems with how those annotations function and display (or don't) in different platforms and apps.
MS Office. I need to specifically use it sometimes.

I'd always wondered how much of it is that I come off as (because I am) a cis/het white man, but I think things are getting better on that score, too. I wonder how much of that is that you *cannot* get by in Linuxland if you're not okay with trans women. :)

(fwiw my only foundation want right now is for the license shit that's unnecessarily been hobbling everything in linuxland forever -- which they have promised *will* be fixed in php9 -- to definitely be resolved, no backtracking. we *need* things like ext-xapian to be packaged in distros)

2. We officially support, AND MAINTAIN, the following ways to install them

Respectfully, that sounds like someone looking for a reason, not an actual recommendation. They are both good, though Mint is, perhaps, the most polished UI in LinuxLand. So my question to you is, "What do you think changing would offer you?"

* Starts X4 from Linuxland *hangs until I kill it* spends an hour or two trying to troubleshoot.
* Starts the same binary from FreeBSD (without the linux chroot) works perfectly fine. 🤣

Using the latest Ubuntu userland that I could find for RiscV now, compiled gdb and the tests in Linuxland. Still have some stuff to try and fix.
Currently I can only use it to examine core files, getting it to be able to debug running stuff in Linuxland is more of a challenge.
