My suggestion is to use LocalWP and enable Live Links. It gives you a local site with external access.

Here's another small but handy dandy feature of LocalWP. One-click admin. Set it and forget it. Then click on the WP Admin button to automatically login as Admin for that site.

My inclination is against, as that’s potentially forcing a new default state of WordPress.
I’ve come across folks who think creating dev sites in LocalWP is equivalent to standing up a publicly accessible website. Alternately, most folks I know treat Hello Dolly as a repeated annoyance.

Font Awesome plugin won't work in a local Wordpress site due to LocalWP blocking external API requests. So, I learned how to manually configure Font Awesome with theme.json (register the fonts) and functions.php (enqueuing). Then, lots of tweaking for styling and linking.

also: localwp is such a lifesaver for wordpress projects. setting up sites locally is effortless. i can spin up, test, break, fix, push. and it’s free. on http://wordpress.com you need a business plan just to use basic plugins like elementor.

So happy with my N100 mini itx local server, running cold and on low power (starts with 6W!), in a little box with a PICO PSU (max 120w), 16GB Ram, a SSD disk (m2 is an option!). Great for my WordPress (or any other PHP stuff) setups, with local SSL. Way faster than LocalWP.
