Tailoring log verbosity wisely in development turns into a costly and distracting issue in production. Monitor and adjust levels per environment. logginglevels. Adjusting log levels from DEBUG to INFO reduces production verbosity from 1000 to 100 logs per second. #opsbestpractices #logmanagement

`logrotate`'s `copytruncate` is a sneaky one! Man page says "very small time slice," but

copytruncate: A "Very Small Time Slice" Cost 33,879 Lines
logrotate's man page calls it a "very small time slice". I measured it: on a 400 MB log, copytruncate lost nearly 10% of lines. Here's why.

Two years ago, I created a #syslog_ng repo for #AmazonLinux 2023. As I received zero feedback, I left it alone until last week. The repo is now updated to the latest version of syslog-ng: 4.12.

A raw IP in your logs tells you nothing. Enriched, it's a Tor exit node with a threat score of 91.
IP enrichment adds location, network, company, and threat data to every IP you already log.

SIEM correlates logs from many systems to spot suspicious patterns. It is more than log storage: tuning reduces noise, false positives, and analyst review remain essential. #SIEM #LogManagement #SecurityOps
This Is How I Explain SIEM To a Beginner
A SIEM helps security teams analyze and correlate logs from many sources to detect suspicious activity that would be hard to spot in individual events. The article explains that log management is not the same as SIEM, and that tuning, false positives, and human analysts are essential for effective detection. #SIEM #SecurityPlus #CISSP
