My middle son is a math major in college and I asked him what he thinks about all the AI math proofs and his take is basically that there’s no benefit to having a machine do a lot of advanced math research because advanced math isn’t, like, necessary.

after reading the actual paper the math thing is less scary. the "make it better at math" prompt made the smaller model a whole lot better by fixing a bug related to looping. impressive, but not scary (to me at least). pure math knowledge was not being injected from one model class to another (yet)
