Developer documentation

#MWID #Software #Documentation
Arlo swings by to see Ellis. "Hey Ellis," Arlo says. "I'm coming to help on your calculator service from next week. Can you share the documentation with me so I can be prepared?" "Well, first of all," Ellis replies. "Here's The Oxford English Dictionary. All the words that would describe the service are in there!"

Murray shows off his merge chops

#MWID #DevOps #Git
Murray and Arlo are sitting at their desks, which are next to each other. Murray is looking happy and a little vacant. He points at his screen. "The new feature I've worked on for a month if finished," Murray says with excitement. "Here comes the commit!" Boop beep boop. The computer works on the commit. "What?!" Exclaims Murray. "Merge hell! I don't get it..." Arlo braces for what he knows Murray is about to say. He raised his eyebrows and then it comes. "You merge **all the time**," Murray complains. "And this **never** happens to you!"

Four!

Four panel cartoon. Arlo is finishing up an explanation of the PHP security issue. "... and the secret key was just: 4" Arlo concludes. "Oh my goodness," Murray exclaims. "That's why I use such a strong password!" "Like what?" Arlo asks. "0000000000000100"

Ellis shows off his deployment chops.

#MWID #DevOps
Ellis and Blake are standing by Ellis' desk. Ellis is looking happy and a little vacant. He points at his screen. "This is our blue/green environment," Ellis says with excitement. Blake raises his eyebrows. "You mean 'environments', plural, right?" Blake asks. "Er! Well!" Ellis says, looking worried. "Anyway, moving on..." Ellis quickly switches to another application and says: "This is our CI/CD tool!"

AI-first companies.

#MWID #AI
Blake is searching online for jobs. A big job ad appears that says, "Join our AI-FIRST dev team" and Blake hits the "Apply now" button. Fast forward to day one of the new job... "I'm struggling to find my desk," Blake tells his onboarding buddy. "Or a laptop, or the toilets." "Your needs must wait," the onboarding buddy says. "As you know, we're AI-first."

This is the modern web.

#DevOps #MWID #Loading
In the first panel, the two cartoon programmers are outlines and silver boxes with no faces. The first character has an empty speech bubble above them. In the second panel, a little more detail is visible. The characters have eyes, and one has an unhappy mouth. The second character responds in confusion, with an empty speech bubble above them and question marks over their head. In the third panel, there's yet more detail. A fully loaded outline of Blake responds: "I said, the initial cartoon load was super fast!"

Blake is having a catch-up with Ellis. "Continuous Integration is no longer options," Blake suggests. "Absolutely," Ellis agrees. "How often do you merge to main?" Blake asks. "Oh," Ellis responds. "Straight after every project."

Speak slow.

#MWID #Webinars
Ellis is on screen presenting his latest webinar. "Hello," he begins, pausing for a beat or two. "... welcome... to... today's... session... on... secure... software..." Later that day, Blake bumps into Ellis in the corridor. He's confused about why Ellis was speaking so slowly on the webinar, but isn't sure whether to mention it. After a deep breath, Blake decides to ask. "Why did you speak so slow on the webinar today?" Ellis responds instantly. "Everyone watches them back at double speed!"

Doug has gathered the team for an important update. His clipboard has been polished and Doug has a graph clipped to it. As he speaks, the team look increasingly uncomfortable. "We need you all to be more innovative," Doug begins. "We've only received one F-572 innovation form this month... and only the first 16 pages were completed."

Performative outrage.

#MWID
A man is walking along a hallway when he comes across a poster from a Drag Show. He recoils in horror. "Oh no," he exclaims. "I'm so offended by this poster. I'm going to call the police!" Ellis, coming along the hallway from the other direction, stops in surprise. "Dude," Ellis says. "Why are you even in my house?"

Stinkin' badges.

#DevOps #MWID #Security
Doug is doing security onboarding with Blake. Having taking the embarrassing staff photo, Doug runs through the rules for door badges. "There's no FINCO logo on your door badge," Doug explains. "So, if you lose it, people won't know they can use it here..." Doug hands over the badge, which is attached to a distinctive lanyard with the FINCO logo repeat-printed on it. "Oh," Doug adds. "And we don't allow personalized lanyards."

Two people are approaching a lush green forest past old gnarled trees. “Let’s walk through the carnivorous forest,” the first person suggests. “Ha ha,” their friend replies as the nearest tree starts to wake up. “You mean coniferous!” The tree eats them both.

We need to move beyond Trump. He has no rational relevance, no intellectual value. He is a zoo animal and should be observed as such. The focus should be on the folks with the mops and pails who whisper to him to during pen maintenance.

Chuck it over the fence.

#MWID
Ellis and Blake are reviewing their code changes and burning their new software version to CD. “We’ve made this pretty hard to test,” Blake says. “Never mind,” Ellis replies. “Check it over the fence to DevOps.” Ellis flips the CD like a Frisbee, where it arcs through the air and smacks Blake on the head. “Ouch!” Blake exclaims. “You know that we are DevOps, right?”
