#Mastectomy
In December 2023, I was prepped for a mastectomy. I had cancer. One of the people getting me ready was a trans man. He could see that my wife and I were terrified. He hiked his scrubs' top to show me bilateral mastectomy scars -- "See? It's no big deal." It was the most generous gesture ever.

Helen Joyce: little Lauren here saw one of the ne’er-do-wells and snuck off for a mastectomy next door before her parents could stop her.

You can't meaningfully consent to a mastectomy unless you've surrendered one of your eyes in exchange for true wisdom. Anything less is a tragedy

one of my friends, who is quietly transmasc, survived breast cancer 2 yrs ago and opted for bilat mastectomy without reconstruction, and she is much happier now :)

More rich kids get a nose job in a year than trans kids have gotten a mastectomy in total
Ill put 1k down this guy has zero issues with how many teenage girls get plastic surgery with their parents consent
No. No children should be allowed to undergo permanent surgery. We do have every right to step in as a society when parents abuse their children. Children are unable to make such life-changing decision for themselves.

Do you think a cis boy with Klinefelter's syndrome shouldn't be allowed to have a mastectomy?

Remember when Angelina Jolie decided to get a preemptive double mastectomy bc she did a genetic test and was like 100% gonna get awful breast cancer, and society acted like HEY WE DIDN'T APPROVE THAT YOU NEED THOSE FOR US TO OGGLE AT, YOUR HEALTH BE DAMNED.

My aunt had double mastectomy surgery yesterday. Thank God she’s doing well. 🙌🏽💖

How many surgeons agree to do non-standard genital surgeries, or perform any trans genital surgeries without a prior requirement for HRT? Would your endo not question your need for E if you got a mastectomy? What happens when your request is parsed as absurd nonsense by the system?

A year ago I found out I was positive for BRCA2, a gene mutation that comes with a 55% to 69% chance of breast cancer. 2 MRIs, 2 mammograms, 2 ultrasounds, and 1 biopsy later, I am getting a preventative mastectomy a month from today.

It’s an amazing bit to go “you can get sloshed or die for your country (or both) but a mastectomy is a step too far at that age”
It's a truly astonishing level of woo for her to have picked up.

I am hoping this isn't a murder lump.

But also, a transmasc pal had one of those and talked very nicely to their surgeon and basically went "I know you do top surgery privately, and considering I need a bilateral mastectomy because murder boobs..."

16 is already the youngest that doctors will sign off on something like top surgery, and even then, it's less common for a trans boy to have a mastectomy than it is a cis boy to have one.

Omg I (cis woman) had a preventative mastectomy to avoid cancer at 24… wonder what she’d think of me 😆 somehow I’d be a magical exception. But with that quote on breastfeeding idk maybe not…

There’s one detransitioner who is like “I’m shocked a doctor did that to me, I was influenced to do that by the woke left” and like… girl you were 40 when you had a double mastectomy.

My other favorite Ann Richards story is that when Liz Carpenter, who had been the press secretary for LBJ, had her mastectomy, Ann sent her a get well card that said, “What’s a TAT and did they give you one?” It was framed and on the wall in Liz’s office.

As someone who has, albeit rather reluctantly, undergone a single mastectomy, I find it interesting how transphobes view assigned-female breasts.

Women with DCIS may not need routine imaging after double mastectomy
Women who have undergone a double mastectomy to treat ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a noninvasive form of breast cancer also known as stage 0 breast cancer, may not benefit from routine mammograms or other breast imaging after surgery, according to a new study led by investigators at the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. The study, published in Surgical Oncology Insight, found that most cancer recurrences were detected after patients developed symptoms or doctors noticed concerning changes, rather than through routine screening. The findings suggest that routine imaging may offer limited benefit for women who have no symptoms after double mastectomy. “Our findings raise an important question about the value of continued screening after cancer treatment for women with DCIS,” said Dr. Nimmi Kapoor, associate professor of surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and senior author of the study. “This highlights the importance of appropriate clinical follow-up and making sure patients and their physicians know what changes to look for.” DCIS is a noninvasive form of breast cancer in which abnormal cells develop inside the milk ducts but have not spread into surrounding breast tissue. It is typically treated with surgery, either by removing the...
