This observation others w/ #gastruloids on how Matrigel elicits the emergence of somites morphogenesis where somite GRNs are in place or on how spinal cord can refine the patterning of somites. All about higher order organizing interactions between cell populations. #Codevelopment #NotInTheGenes

Early work from Kandice Tanner and Mina Bissell showed that small clusters of epithelial cells orbit in Matrigel. We see this also with larger spheroids in collagen!

Using phenotypic and scRNA-seq comparative analyses, Dolgos et al. show that prostate cancer patient-derived organoids (PDOs) cultured in a Matrigel-free culture system exhibit cellular heterogeneity and preserve PCa patient-specific cell populations. An integrated prostate PDO single-cell atlas (PPScA) captures a spectrum of cellular identities and reveals pathways altered in vitro.
