Glad to see we’re addressing the root cause of all of this: Luther’s heresy

THIS CALLS FOR A MEDIEVALIST!
I'm thinking about all the people googling "Avignon papacy" or looking it up right at Wikipedia, and I love this for all of us.

It gives me hope.

So… as a medievalist it was a combination
A Norway fan has gone viral for not taking part in their Row celebration after matches and won't do it if they win the World Cup

"It’s factually wrong; they didn’t row, they sailed over the Atlantic”

Historians are going to have better records from the 19th century than the 21st, is my most medievalist futurist prediction.
We won't just lose the archives they want us to lose but also the ones they couldn't back up properly.

Also a medievalist, cosign
In my experience, scholars of a particular historical period are the LEAST uptight about "accuracy" in fictional representations of their period, which is why, as a medievalist, I can assure you that A Knight's Tale is the greatest movie set in medieval England that has ever been made.

I am a medievalist so I have to do this every day
Every now and then I have to explain to people that "Germany" as a country didn't exist until 1874, and that the modern German state is essentially a Millennial.

Am medievalist, is correct
it's really important to me to point out that in fact the medieval peasant did in fact run out of food, every year lots of them did starve, and less often but still often enough the peasantry in general ran out of food causing well known historic events

As a professional medievalist can confirm
The word "efficiency" is derived from the old English "e-fish in sea"

Saxon fisherman used to put electronic fish into the deepest part of the ocean to rouse the spirits of giant cod. This was seen as pagan and the practice was banned under Aethelred II

But the phrase yet signifies a job well done

Your average medievalist.
May 8, 2025 at 7:12 PM
almost every medievalist I know prefers this movie to every medieval movie that doesn't feature David Bowie and Queen
I’ve said it before but I think there should be more historical comedies like A Knight’s Tale because those often end up using the period in question in more interesting ways than the dramas do.

as a medievalist i approve this message
I suppose Manchin's right about the Senate filibuster being the "Holy Grail of democracy," in that it's a myth fabricated long after the fact which contradicts the principles of the thing it's supposedly connected to and which has never served any useful purpose.
