#MedievalSky In case your students this week come in w/ questions about the Russian plague case currently in the news, you can tell them:
1) if this is plague (Yersinia pestis), there is nothing unusual about it (a) being in Russia or (b) being the subject of lab research. Plague is worldwide.

Since I had the medieval manuscript books out, here’s an illustration from my copy of John O. Westwood’s Facsimiles of Anglo-Saxon and Irish Manuscripts published in 1868 of the mid-8th-century Irish Gospels of St Gall. Westwood studied all of his facsimiles from sight before recreating.
