Není zrovna chytré připravovat otázky do zkouškového test v poněkud infantilním rozpoložení. Právě jsem napsal:

Megakaryocyte, megakaryocyte, proč máš tak velké jádro?
a. abych tě lépe viděl
b. abych tě lépe slyšel
c. protože jsem spáchal endomitózu
d. protože nás několik spáchalo syncytium

Call me biased, but I can't think of a better way to celebrate my first #FluorescenceFriday here than with this beautiful megakaryocyte making proplatelets 😍. Aren't these cells amazing?

The megakaryocyte: trapped in a cage of its own making 𐂺

In this #preprint, @wclairemasson.bsky.social & colleagues report the discovery of novel structures controlling megakaryocyte protrusion events.

Me reading about any new research that comes out on #LongCOVID. As a theater and French double major, my brain was simply not built for science. Like, I resent that I have to know what a megakaryocyte is.

Emperipolesis (Greek: em – inside; peri – around; polemai – wander about) defined by Humble et al. as “the active penetration of one cell by another which remains intact.”

Here we have engulfed blood cells w/ conserved morphology within the cytoplasm of a megakaryocyte.

And in other cells, this is an 'intentional' strategy to allow rapid replication (as in megakaryocytes).

The association with aging may also suggest another advantage: multiple copies of each chromosome minimize the impact of a single damaged chromosome.

The 'broken' genes are supplemented...

At the other extreme are the megakaryocytes, a type of bone marrow cell that produces your platelets, essential for clotting.

They can have 32 or more copies of each chromosome, but the exact factor of 2 varies by age, disease state, genetics.
Megakaryocyte and polyploidization
In mammals, platelets are produced in the blood by cytoplasmic fragmentation of megakaryocytes (MKs). Platelet production is thus dependent on both th…
