#Megaloptera
I will stop at 25 for now. 25 bugs. I apologize to fans of mayflies, Megaloptera, lice and Strepsiptera.
Once again, tell me your favorite. Might actually do something with the answers.

Close up of an alderfly. Little changed since the Jurassic period. In the order Megaloptera, meaning large wings.

Spring fishflies (Megaloptera: Corydalidae: Chauliodes rastricornis) are large insects that can be seen in the spring in eastern North America. Because their larvae are aquatic, they're typically found near calm waters. Palmyra Michigan, 29 May 2013.

Omdat Nederland weer eens niet zo leuk is, even wegdromen bij een reis naar Borneo jaren geleden en deze ontmoeting met een grootvleugelige (orde Megaloptera) behorend tot de familie Corydalidae (geen Nederlandse naam). #ElkeDagEenInsect

Alderflies (Megaloptera: Sialidae) inhabit much of the world, but are most common in the northern hemisphere. Since their predaceous larvae are aquatic, they're most often seen near lakes, ponds, and slow-moving rivers. Females lay eggs on vegetation over the water. Blissfield Michigan, 27 May 2011.

It really annoys me how people around Detroit call mayflies "fish flies." The one on the left is a mayfly, order Ephemeroptera. The one on the right is a fishfly, order Megaloptera. They're not even in the same order. Metzger Marsh near Bono, Ohio, 28 Jun 2014 and Palmyra Michigan, 29 May 2013.

Oooh! I'll play!
#invertefest Nigronia serricornis, the saw-combed fishfly is an aquatic insect that burrows into banks to pupate (undergo metamorphosis). This makes them especially at-risk to floods and bank erosion. The adults are beautiful too. Seen in central NY.
