I think it's an overcorrection to say that it's small! People say "well the Mercator projection distorts the poles" and that's true, but Greenland is still a quarter of the size of the continental US.

General issue with locating the equator. People look at you blankly when you point out most of Africa is north of it. I've had people think it must run somewhere through peninsular India.
I mostly blame Mercator maps with Antarctica lopped off, but it's racialized too.
