Anyway, your problem isn‘t finding the time to take notes. The problem is that taking notes is thinking and thinking has to be done by someone. women have been doing a lot of metacognition that looks like a task when it’s really thinking.

Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

I spent two years in graduate school focused on metacognition, by the way. It’s an interest. And yeah there’s no mechanism for it in these platformed lessons and assignments. A smart teacher *can* augment but they need time and support. Two things we don’t encourage.

I watched my 13yr old do some algebra homework on her iPad. She tapped out a plotted graph that was incorrect but she wasn't sure why. The app gave no feedback. She tapped out another plot. It was correct.
She learned minimally without embodied metacognitive reinforcement. I wish the iPad was gone.

I audited a social studies lesson given as a teaching from home day. It was so bad I told the child don’t worry about doing it.
The device itself is a distraction. An AI Trojan horse, to boot. But the curriculum on them is the real pedagogical crime.
