2/ in my hometown made in the mid-70s. I'd eat it every day between dance & theater classes, b/c I had a functional metabolism then.

The 2nd is a chocolate orange, chocolate chip affair based on Swenson's Swiss orange chip. (Remember Swenson's?) Their chocolate was darker, but mine is still good.

I hope it works in reverse and I can just subsist on this one potato chip for half a week

Unless metabolism changes too? Metabolism may also change, too o3o

Real-time metabolic monitoring on a chip: What happens inside a cell can be measured instantly
In a significant advancement for lab-on-chip technology, IBEC researchers in the frame of the European project BLOC, have demonstrated the first integration of a benchtop nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer with a microfluidic cell culture platform capable of real-time metabolic monitoring, made feasible by employing quantum-enhanced NMR techniques to dramatically increase signal sensitivity.

What does this mean for your #NAMs platform of choice?

👉For drug absorption, metabolism & DDI: you probably want the intestine-on-chip.
👉For developmental biology / early tissue states: organoids are your friend.
👉For certain barrier / ECM / EMT questions: Transwells can be very informative

Human iPSCs are a powerful source for gut #NAMs.
But the same starting cells can behave very differently depending on whether you use them as 3D organoids, 2D monolayers on Transwells or on an intestine-on-chip.

So we asked: how big is that difference, really?

Fair and real, a sim of metabolism is not metabolism, cells do physical work no chip does. But that is the substrate question, not the modeling one. The claim was never that it transforms matter, only that it compresses how we think. Does the wet work bear on that?

What we globally find:

🔹 Organoids
Strong developmental / fetal signatures
More embryonic patterning pathways

🔹 Transwells
More ECM remodeling, cell cycle, EMT-like features

🔹 Intestine-on-chip
Highest expression of digestion, nutrient transport & drug metabolism genes

**Title: Enhanced Biomimetic Microfluidic Modeling of Human Liver-on-a-Chip for Personalized Drug Metabolism Prediction via Dynamic Bayesian Network Integration**
**Abstract:** This paper presents a novel approach to modeling human liver-on-a-chip (hLOC) systems for personalized drug metabolism prediction. Combining advanced microfluidic simulation with dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) inference, we develop a system capable of dynamically adapting to complex physiological conditions, significantly improving the accuracy of drug response prediction. The core innovation lies in integrating detailed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with a DBN trained on patient-specific genomic and metabolic data, creating a hybrid model that captures both micro-scale fluid dynamics and macro-scale physiological variations.

## Automated Microfluidic Liver-on-a-Chip Platform for Personalized Drug Metabolism Prediction via Multi-Modal Data Integration and Bayesian Network Modeling
**Abstract:** This paper presents a novel, automated microfluidic Liver-on-a-Chip (LoC) platform coupled with a multi-modal data integration and Bayesian network modeling pipeline for personalized drug metabolism prediction. Existing LoC systems often lack automated control and robust data analysis, hindering their widespread adoption for drug development. Our platform combines advanced microfluidic design with automated control, real-time imaging, and electrochemical sensing, generating a comprehensive dataset of hepatocyte viability, metabolic activity (CYP450 enzyme expression), and drug response.
