My issue with reasoning agents doing evidence synthesis is that most empirical statements should be dismissed. Even in reputed journals. Because most numbers in frontiers need to be revised and nobody does that for papers 10 years old.

It might not be immediately apparent to someone who's not faculty working full-time in a specific research area, but there's a huge amount of junk out there that looks very similar to quality research. LLMs struggle to avoid it. It gums up the results for Elicit, Consensus, etc.

How you treat a case like decision making to achieve certain extra-scientific outcomes vs. rigor of evidence. The way accelerated approvals work for approving novel therapies falls into this and I would argue implicitly results in values rightly influencing thresholds of decision-making. 1/2
