We keep discovering new connections between human experience and the ecosystems of bacteria and other microbiological organisms in our guts, how the fuck anyone would think a chatbot approaches intelligence or consciousness is beyond me.
It genuinely melts my mind how so many allegedly smart people are willing to simply discard the utterly crucial differences between the embodied, organic consciousness of human beings (and bees, and dogs, and fish) and the networked, disembodied simulacra of such that is an LLM.
I’ve had conversations with a good friend who’s a philosophy professor about how grotesque it is that people that are trying to digitally emulate thought are unable to understand the depth and breadth of experience that goes into EVERY SINGLE SITUATION that they think is so rigorously logical.

I spent 6 years on the USDA’s National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF) during the George W Bush administration. Was an amazing collaboration between the government agencies above, industry, and private citizens or consumer advocates like me as a physician
