Risk modeling committee urges multi‑model comparison and clearer validation after review of IOU WMP practices
The committee recommended Energy Safety require IOUs to test and compare multiple wildfire‑spread models (at least three, including an open‑source option) and to adopt standardized reporting and validation steps; presenters warned current single‑model reliance can understate extreme, wind‑driven events.

A model can look powerful for the wrong reason.
In spatial ML, geography and coverage can make performance look better than real generalization.

In a new article, Erika Gomes-Gonçalves reflects on how "spatial data it is not organized like ordinary independent rows. It comes with geometry, proximity, adjacency, and dependence" — and unpacks the practical implications of this observation.
