At the parrot shelter where I volunteered the Moluccans were a challenging species, hard to find appropriate homes for. High intelligence and difficult vocals/strong bird. Some committed 'parronts' do manage it and love them.

There's a cockatoo rescue/sanctuary that I can't remember the name of, but they have aviaries for each species. Some of the interesting data they've gathered is the amount of personal space each species tends to prefer. I think most want between about .5-2 ft, but Moluccans want *none*.

And most Dutch people don't even know half the social issues that people experience here. Hell I didn't even know for the longest time until I looked more into what happened post WW2 with the Moluccans who got displaced and were nationless for decades after the Dutch waged a war in Indonesia. 🫠

Looks pretty certain that Rob Jetten will apologise to the Moluccan exiles who fought with the Dutch in the Indonesian war of independence in the 1940s. That explains it. Moluccans I've been around have tended to have extra big personalities, in addition to their size.
It's heartbreaking that the attractiveness of parrots to humans is part of the reason they are so endangered.
It is hard to meet their needs in homes, even for those who love them.
