In unrelated news, it's Bandcamp Friday! Instead of giving money to Discord or Spotify, you should buy music directly from the artists who created it!

Pay musicians for their music. Don't pay soulless corporations for the ability to rent music.
Discord pauses your Spotify playback if your mic has been active for more than 30 seconds and honestly I think we need CEOs to be far more afraid for their lives than they are

An oldie I hadn’t heard or thought about in decades.

Thank you, @hcrichardson.bsky.social for sparking my long term memory. ;)

Music lovers will recognize other brilliant musicians on this recording.
Sounds like a good thing. 💛

One of the 45s I bought for $1.00 when I was in junior high school, admittedly because of the 🍏label.

I didn’t realize at the time that he was the guy on The Beatles ‘Get Back’!

But they've also bullied:
-other conventions WHILE running one
-major furry fashion brands while buddying up to big name creators
-musicians and music groups they're jealous of
-ex roommates (basically all of them)
-Other fur meets
-Other members of their own staff

bandcamp fridays remind me just how many musicians and bands and albums exist in my own little circle of friends and acquaintances and it's humbling when I realise just how much music there really is. I will never be able to keep up

I really want to shake some musicians.
I found some wonderful music! Made with skill and clearly years of experience! I was just about to buy their album, but then noticed it.

Seems like a good day to remind people that 25 years ago musicians were engaged in activism to abolish the death penalty. It seemed like that and prison reform in general would be the cause carrying us into a new era www.nytimes.com/2001/06/27/a...

"Often musicians like to say, 'It’s just about the music.' You’re full of shit. No, it isn’t. It’s about the covers, the sweaters or jackets you wear, the way you look like a gang."

Today is Bandcamp Friday, which means it's the only day of the month that that musicians make any money.

You should support a bunch of artists today to help them make more music. And if I can say, I'd love if you'd support widdle ole us.

There's other ways you can show support too:

AI apologists don't like the use of stolen when the record companies "own" the music, but we all know how unfair those contracts are. Many famous musicians have spoken out against how their work was taken.

No contract signed in the 70s or 80s would include ai training. No artist would have agreed.
The boundary on how easy it is to steal from individual artists will always be pushed. The question becomes, where do you draw the line?

The record companies own the rights to most known songs. They can ai regurgitate stolen music until the end of time without ever paying a new artist again.
AI-assisted music creation will be the same. People argue about what level of sound generation and integration is "real music" and what is "not", but will eventually settle upon a happy medium of what's acceptable. And then that boundary will be pushed further

I agree with you on how local music are still possible today cause on how social media like the online article made it very easy for local musicians to share their music.

IBMA's not in town anymore, but here's a little ambience for the Raleigh Wide Open music festival today & tomorrow. I have other plans so won't be doing it, but in years past I have gravitated to doing tight details of musicians in addition to the usual stuff. I'm interested in the process & styles

Ability to create art has zero input on ability to critique art. They're two separate skills. Plenty of critics have made some *mediocre* art, and some of the worst music writing I've read has come from musicians clearly out over their skis

Yes. Mixing and sampling without proper credit IS stealing. You need to name and pay your musicians. No one is saying mixing and sampling is not music, but it does stand on the back of other artists.

It's Bandcamp Friday! That means, all of your money goes to the Bandcamp artists today.

I have some suggestions. Take a look at https://www.klezmershack.com/ ! #jewishmusic
the KlezmerShack
The KlezmerShack is the online home of 'world music from a Jewish slant'. We cover Klezmer and more, focusing on the edges and the sounds that express who we are now. We also provide the place for klezmorim, other musicians, fans and scholars to network online.
