On the role of mutualisms in plant biogeography: consequences for ecology, evolution, and invasion
Most plant species world-wide depend on one or more mutualisms – beneficial associations with other species. Evidence is emerging that these biotic mutualisms shape plant biogeography (i.e. distribut....

Convergent symbioses: morphology, life history, and niche specialization in coral and lichen mutualisms
Corals and lichens, though unrelated and from different ecosystems, both depend on internal photosynthetic symbionts, leading to similar traits in morpholo

Ecologist Rob Dunn has long been fascinated by mutualisms—the win-win relationships in nature. In his new book, he explores how different species have teamed up with humans and what those partnerships say about us.
Teamwork Between Species Is The Key To Life Itself
“The Call of the Honeyguide” traces the mutualisms found throughout nature, from hunting pairs to the microbes all around us.

I am constantly fascinated by Anthopleura's ability to form mutualisms with the normal marine Cnidarian symbionts of Symbiodiniaceae (dinoflagellates; brown algae!) but also Chlorella (green algae, more related to plants!) which can also form mutualisms with freshwater hydra! 🧪 🦑

New episode!! 🎉🎙️

A conversation w/ Rob Dunn about mutualisms.

Predation, parasitism, and other negative interactions garner a lot of attention. But interspecies cooperation may be just as common—and it has profoundly shaped our species and our world.

There are myriad examples of prey naivete, enemy release, biotic resistance, mutualisms etc, that demonstrate the importance of evolutionary context in species interactions.

This is why species origins matter. #bioinvasions
