I created a newsgroup called alt.great-ass.swedish-chef and @ekseebacher.bsky.social, the netnews admin for the University of Chicago, sent me an email saying roughly “cut that out.”
My favorite “how we met” story was the couple who met in an AOL chatroom arguing about the OJ Simpson case and were still together 20 years later.
This is, weirdly, something I can speak to since I’ve specialized in engagement ring and wedding band sales for the last 12 years - there’s been an increase in people who met on apps but it’s still significantly outweighed by IRL meetings, especially at work or from college.

I was a newbie latecomer to social media, having not gotten onto netnews aka Usenet until 1981, a decade after Arpanet mailing lists started up.
By then we had 300 baud modems, though my first online connects were on a TTY that could do 110 baud if you set the 75/110 switch to "FAST" :-)

I started at Bell Labs in 1979, and Steve Bellovin brought Netnews (later named Usenet) when he came over from UNC in 1981 and I got on a few months later.
ARPAnet was around in those days. We didn't have direct access until a few years later, but some of the mailing lists got gatewayed to Netnews.

あとゴミたちの言動が2ちゃんねるどころかNetnewsの雑魚たちとまったく同じで、やっぱりゴミって進化しないんだなーと思うなど。
Twitter(自称X) で「戦争反対」と言っただけで自分の人生に絶望したゴミが大量に涌いてきた。まあ相手にせず片っ端からブロックしているけど、引用リプもカットできるBlueskyの優秀性が証明された感じ。
