For this week's #FridayFrills, here is a 1955 Balenciaga ball gown. Balenciaga does a nod towards the bustle, putting the fullness in back, a typical Balenciaga move as he prefered dresses to have contrast between the front and back. @NGVMelbourne #fashionhistory

Red and navy blue always a winner in my estimation and this Worth gown uses the brightest of reds to punctuate the details of their mid #1890s design. Nicely nautical for seaside promenading #NGVMelbourne #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

If, in the late #1860s, you happened to be in the market for a pair of silk embellished heeled boots and you had the wherewithal to shop at Jean-Louis François Pinet, which boots are you choosing? Gold and burgundy, black floral embroidered or leafy brocade? #NGVMelbourne #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
