How many state nature conservation orgs across the world celebrate ecologically devastating non-native invasive species like sika deer and goats, as the NPWS does?
Why not also American mink or Japanese knotweed, while we're at it?

Yet alien invasive species like pheasants, rhodo, sitka, need no permit at all, while others (eg sika deer) are *protected*.

In the last year I have visited all 8 of our National Parks. Today I visited the last one, Boyne Valley in Meath. I'm very grateful to the NPWS staff for their time and the many discussions, including difficult ones, that I've had with them. Article for the Examiner coming soon.

I'm saddened to hear of the suspected poisoning of Caimín, one of our oldest white tailed eagles.
It's heartbreaking for all involved in or who care about nature conservation.
