Irish govt has public sector strikes & strike by court lawyers. To distract media, they criticised a video about children giving consent to being hugged by grandparents*. As their bad news rolled on they criticised all public ed vids. Maybe the ones on drinking & driving are inconvenient for them?

BEYOND THE BOSPORUS: Why Azerbaijan’s official news agency lifted lid
When state news agency of Azerbaijan APA this week published an investigative report detailing voyages completed by cargo ships from Turkey to Israel, a delicate geopolitical nerve took a direct hit. The October 6 article, headlined “456 ship voyages from Turkey to Israel: The unseen side of ‘zero trade,’” was a direct challenge to official assertions from Ankara that Turkey’s commercial ties with Israel have been completely frozen. Drawing on Automatic Identification System (AIS) vessel-tracking data, the Azerbaijani Press Agency investigation mapped out persistent flows of cargo across the Eastern Mediterranean. Flags of convenience APA’s findings showed that six foreign-flagged container ships linked to Turkish operators, namely Medkon Ltf, Medkon Canakkale, Medkon Mersin, Admiral Mars, Aadmiral Star and Anita A, made 11 port calls at Israeli cities Ashdod and Haifa between September 17 and September 30 alone. In all, 456 direct voyages from Turkish ports to Israeli ports took place between January and September 2025, the APA report claimed. The vessels reportedly carried Panamanian and Liberian flags of convenience, but information from corporate registry databases linked the management of the vessels back to Turkish maritime enterprises. "What were these ships carrying and who were the ultimate counterparties?" the media outlet asked, framing the trade as starkly contradicting Ankara’s public stance on Turkish trade with Israel. Article quietly vanished The horse had bolted – but within hours of publication, the article quietly vanished. Azerbaijani, English and Russian versions of the report were deleted, without any retraction or explanation. Readers attempting to access the report were directed back to APA’s homepage. The lifespan of the report in public circulation may have been brief, but it was enough to highlight rare, but brewing, diplomatic frictions between Turkey and Azerbaijan, two nations long bound by a somewhat sacred foreign policy doctrine: "One nation, two states." Turkey’s government even includes the slogan in official publications outlining legislation and in directives published in its Official Gazette. ‘Know your place’ The timing of the release of the APA report was not at all coincidental. It arrived in the public eye just four days after Azerbaijan’s president, Ilham Aliyev, delivered a fiery address at the 8th Congress of his ruling New Azerbaijan Party on October 2. Without explicitly naming foreign powers, Aliyev launched a sharply worded rebuke against external interference. "Everyone should know their place, stay out of our affairs, stop poking their noses into our lifestyle and refrain from lecturing us," the Azerbaijani leader of 22 years declared. Aliyev forcefully asserted his country’s foreign policy independence, pointedly revisiting Baku’s 2020 victory over the Armenians in retrieving territory in Nagorno-Karabakh. "Whatever we achieved, we purchased with our own money," he said, emphasising that all military equipment used in the conflict was procured at market rates. In Ankara, Aliyev’s rhetoric was widely interpreted as a quiet dismissal of claims by Turkey’s leader of 23 years, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as regards decisive military backing provided to Azerbaijan during the Nagorno-Karabakh war. The mention of "our lifestyle" was similarly seen as a reference to a recent pushback made by Turkish conservative circles over secular dress code regulations introduced in Azerbaijani schools. Crucially, APA put forward its report on the Turkish-Israeli shipping as a required retort to what it labelled "black propaganda" emanating from Turkey on Azerbaijan’s close strategic and energy ties with West Jerusalem. Turkey’s unwanted ‘big brother’ act Turkey’s state insists on not understanding that no state or non-state actor in the world desires a ‘big brother’, particularly one that is a middle power that itself operates under a hegemon. There is no misunderstanding here. Ankara made the same mistake in relation to the Turkic states in the 1990s, and it still insists on ‘Big Brothering’, not only in Central Asia but also around the Middle East and North Africa. When it comes to trade with Israel, the Azerbaijanis have obviously forgotten that they meet around half of Israel’s crude oil consumption via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. The third section of the pipeline – running from the border of Turkey and Georgia to the Turkish port of Ceyhan on the eastern Mediterranean coast – is operated by Turkish government-run pipeline operations monopoly Botas. Azerbaijan takes part in an open alliance with Israel. Turkey, on the other hand, keeps remaining economic relations with Israel in the shadows, while indulging in carefully controlled wars of words with the Israelis and championing anti-Israel rhetoric in the media. Looking at the hardline rule pursued by Aliyev, the thinking is often that he aims to keep his population, who are mainly Shia, in common with the people of neighbouring Iran, away from Iranian influence, while presenting himself as an independent actor in the world arena who defends the Azerbaijani way of life and sovereignty. The questioning of Aliyev’s Israel policy by Turkish government trolls and media can ordinarily be brushed off. However, if the Shia people of Azerbaijan start questioning why their country is supporting Israel rather than their Shia brothers in Iran, Aliyev could have some problems. It is particularly northern Iran, which borders Azerbaijan, that is populated by ethnic Turks, or Azeris. All in all, there is no visible indication of any sharp deterioration in Turkey-Azerbaijan relations, but Aliyev has at least provided the media purveyors of international relations with some good fodder.

Trump Isn't The Problem — Our Broken Institutions Are
Trump Isn't The Problem — Our Broken Institutions Are Everyone with a functioning brain is disgusted by Trump — alienating our allies, unjust wars, prices at the pump and grocery store skyrocketing, and dodging accountability on Epstein. But here's the uncomfortable truth: it's not his fault. So who IS to blame? 🔴 The voters who got conned — again — by a man who played their racism, nationalism, and grievance politics for a fool's game, blaming Biden, immigrants, and trans people for problems he created. 🔴 The institutions that keep caving. The Supreme Court just greenlit his ballroom project — even conservative Chief Justice John Roberts dissented, calling it likely illegal. Biden never expanded the court. Compromised justices stay put. 🔴 Congress, sitting on its hands. They could stop the tariffs, the wars, the Kennedy Center takeover — they won't even confirm whether one of their own members is still alive. Trump is just being exactly who he's always been. It's the checks and balances that were supposed to stop him — and didn't — that are the real story. 👉 Join the conversation in the comments, LIKE this video, SUBSCRIBE to The Karel Cast, and SHARE it with someone who has an opinion. Trump’s Thursday Speech: New 2020 Election Claims, Democracy Fears
Trump’s Thursday Speech: New 2020 Election Claims, Democracy Fears & The Satellite Company That Could Change Earth Forever President Donald Trump is preparing a major national address Thursday night centered on newly declassified intelligence and renewed claims about the 2020 election. Reports indicate he plans to discuss alleged foreign interference and voting machine vulnerabilities, despite years of investigations, audits, and court rulings finding no evidence that foreign interference changed the outcome of the 2020 election.   What could this speech mean for the future of American elections? Could it become part of a broader push for new federal election laws, including proof-of-citizenship voting proposals? And what role will Congress and the courts play if constitutional questions arise? Then, a story almost no one is talking about: Reflect Orbital. Doommaxxing: How Fear Became a Billion-Dollar Business
Doommaxxing: How Fear Became a Billion-Dollar Business AI is taking your job. The economy is collapsing. A new virus is around the corner. Democracy is ending. Or is it? In this episode of The Karel Cast, we examine the rise of “Doommaxxing”—the business model of keeping people scared, anxious, and constantly engaged. From social media algorithms to cable news, from political campaigns to tech billionaires, fear has become one of the most profitable commodities on Earth. Throughout history, powerful institutions have used fear to control attention. Today, smartphones and social media have made that process faster, more personal, and more profitable than ever before. Who benefits when we’re constantly told disaster is just around the corner? Is AI really coming for everyone’s job? Are we being manipulated into living in a permanent state of crisis? And what does all of this mean for our mental health, our politics, and our future? Plus: • Trump’s latest claim about algae in the Reflecting Pool and why experts disagree. • The FCC’s unprecedented challenge to Disney/ABC station licenses, including KGO-TV San Francisco. • Why media freedom advocates are sounding the alarm. Fear keeps us scrolling. Fear keeps us clicking. Fear keeps us watching. But who profits? The Karel Cast is supported by viewers like you. Please like, subscribe, and share. Another Week, Another Trump Lie? Here’s What’s Actually Happening
Another Week, Another Trump Lie? Here’s What’s Actually Happening Trump says one thing. Reality says another. As a new week begins, some things have become remarkably predictable: more claims, more contradictions, more attacks, and more headlines surrounding Donald Trump. On today’s Karel Cast, we look at three stories raising serious questions: • The controversy surrounding the blue-painted Reflecting Pool and claims about vandalism. • The continuing conflict involving Iran and questions about whether peace efforts have actually produced results. • The ongoing debate over Air Force One, including the luxury aircraft provided by Qatar and the millions spent modifying it. Whether you support Donald Trump or oppose him, one question remains: when statements from public officials conflict with documented facts, who should Americans believe? We’ll separate rhetoric from reality and examine what the media, government records, and public statements actually show. Outrage Is America’s Favorite Addiction
Outrage Is America’s Favorite Addiction A simple Pride Month post from HelloFresh sparked outrage, boycotts, angry comments, and endless social media debates. But the real story isn’t HelloFresh. It’s why so many people seem permanently angry about everything. Why does a Pride post generate thousands of comments demanding a “Straight Pride Month”? Why are immigrants, LGBTQ people, trans people, teachers, homeless people, and other vulnerable groups constantly blamed for problems they didn’t create? Somewhere along the way, outrage became an industry. Politicians profit from it. Media outlets profit from it. Influencers profit from it. Entire movements are built around convincing people that someone else is responsible for their frustrations. From Pride Month backlash to election conspiracies to culture-war outrage, we’re living in an era where anger often replaces understanding and blame replaces accountability. In this episode, Karel examines the growing culture of grievance, victimhood politics, and why some people seem determined to stay angry no matter what issue dominates the headlines. The HelloFresh Controversy Reveals A Bigger Problem
The HelloFresh Controversy Reveals A Bigger Problem A Pride Month social media post from HelloFresh has sparked outrage, backlash, boycotts, and endless debate. Was it a bad joke? Probably. But the reaction to it may reveal something much bigger about where we are as a society in 2026. After spending 30 minutes discussing the controversy on GB News in the UK, one thing became clear: the conversation isn’t really about HelloFresh. It’s about LGBTQ visibility, Pride Month, and why so many people are still uncomfortable when queer people are included in mainstream culture. Meanwhile, Elon Musk and Donald Trump continue to push claims and conspiracies that dominate headlines. But are Americans still listening? Why is every election called “rigged” when one side loses and “fair” when the other side wins? And a new poll raises a troubling question: Is American exceptionalism fading? Fewer Americans than ever believe the United States stands above the rest of the world. What happened to the confidence that once defined the country, and what does it say about our future? In this episode, Karel connects the dots between culture wars, political outrage, conspiracy thinking, and a changing America struggling to define itself. 🔥 Was the HelloFresh post offensive or harmless? 🔥 Are conspiracy theories replacing facts? 🔥 Is America losing faith in itself?
