#Newsarama
Newsarama was my first professional comics gig, way back in 1999. I was the first employee Mike and Matt hired. I learned a ton about the industry and it opened many doors. Lots of great names had bylines there. www.thepopverse.com/comics-newsa... @chrisarrant.bsky.social @popversesays.bsky.social

Newsarama helped shape how we talk about comics and the story of what comics was for the past 25+ years.

This is really sad, but it's a valuable lesson. The trend towards dismantling online news sites via clickbait, listicles and AI started with entertainment. What begins in comics always ends up in the wider world. www.thepopverse.com/comics-newsa...

The first time I was called a cunt on the internet was on my comics column on Newsarama. 😀

Newsarama was the place for a long time. I loved the Blog@ era and team especially.

very funny that newsarama and cbr have zero reporting on the x-men panel

When I was a kid, we had Wizard magazine.

Then Wizard died and we had CBR, Newsarama, etc.

Then came message boards.

Then social media.

Now, no one* knows how to market comics in a post-social media world.

*no one includes me.

With the news that Newsarama is dead getting passed around, I’d like to remind folks that comic book journalism isn’t dead as well, it’s just moved to different places and modes of operation. If you’d like a feed of no clickbait comic book news, here you go: bsky.app/profile/did:...

The longtime EIC of newsarama acting like a dumbfuck in my comments today pretty much sums up why Newsarama sucked for at least a decade of its existence.

This has been going around for years but it's FALSE! Years ago Newsarama didn't do their research and presented some of my just-for-fun Livejournal sketches as official concept art. There WAS almost a Dark Horse TMNT but it fell thru so fast that I never had a chance to do any art for it.

If you want to do something to prevent the next Newsarama from dying in a very non-superhero comic death, put you (or your company)'s money into supporting comics journalism.

I have some recs:

Used to check it first thing every day. Newsarama was also very helpful hiding clues for me when I ran the promotional ARG to promote the launch of Agents of Atlas, the site was plugged into the comics industry in a very active way.

RIP Newsarama. Unlike most news sites, they acknowledged my webcomics existed—on more than one occasion!—and I always appreciated that. I know that was really because of @chrisarrant.bsky.social not "Newsarama" — brands don’t mean anything, people do — but nostalgia is weird okay

Somebody once told me "The internet is forever" but trust me...it only seems that way. A massive historical record of comics was swept away when Newsarama nuked its archives. I fear the same thing may happen at CBR, where the situation sounds more dire by the day.

Just to make sure no one worries after only reading the headline, I’m only taking two weeks off, I still have a big interview going up tomorrow and a podcast next week. So, SKTCHD isn’t going anywhere. I just needed some time off after a series of health things and, frankly, because I’m very tired!
