Problem is, that number is in massive dispute, & they were not all "slaughtered". Many died from disease, starvation, infection, the elements & a plethora of other factors. What happened to them (my ancestors, I am Nipmuck) was horrid, but posting things that are not factually accurate doesn't help.

Connecticut’s State Flower is Mountain Laurel (shared with Pennsylvania)

“There are a number of mountain laurel sanctuaries across the state. Nipmuck State Forest in Union has a one mile long hike amidst the laurels”

you guys ever think about how during King Philip’s War a Nipmuck militant stood over an elderly settler and said, “Come Lord Jesus, save this poor Englishman if thou canst, whom I am now about to Kill”? I do at least

Out on Halls Pond today. My family has lived next to this pond for over 20 years but today I went to a part I’ve never been to. I realized very quickly that I was over a Nipmuck burial ground. Didn’t know it was there, but it is a beautiful place for The People of the Water to rest.

Boston Hollow is a very underrated CT hiking area. I just did 5 miles on the Nipmuck trail/Boston Hollow Rd through incredibly beautiful forest. It's packed with mountain laurel covered in flower buds (maybe a week or two from full bloom?) and heard/saw 14 warbler species. Only saw one other hiker.

ngl there's a not-insignificant part of me that feels that as the descendant of colonizers I just don't belong on this land that was stolen from the Nipmuck and Pocumtuc, however much I love it, and that I should go back to England or Ireland where my ancestors came from

Algoguian: sure, animate and inanimate

I wanted to learn more about the #Nipmuck people, those of the land in which I live, so I found a dissertation on their #grammar and #language.

A grammar of the Nipmuck language
The purpose of this thesis is to provide a grammatical sketch of Loup A, a long-extinct Eastern Algonquian language surviving primarily in the field notes of the Sulpician missionary Jean-Claude Mathevet. These field notes were edited and annotated by Gordon Day (1975); this edition provides the sole source of original linguistic data. This grammatical sketch includes a chapter on phonetics and phonology, from a decidedly historical point of view, as well as brief sections on syntax and derivation, although the main focus is to attempt to account for all inflected forms found in the field notes. As well, this thesis identifies the Loup of Mathevet's field notes as the Nipmuck tribe of central Massachusetts. The above areas of study provide as complete a grammatical sketch as one could expect given the li ited data available, but one that is more than adequate as a concise reference to the structure of an Algonquian language that has until now been almost entirely unexplored.

Disagree. Maine and NH also have perfectly good reasons to do it. (And so of course do the Wampanoag, Nipmuck, Abenaki, etc.)

To get to the OCP I started on Eastford Rd in Eastford following the Nipmuck trail into the woods. The Path showed up again as I traveled south noting crossing points over Chism Bk and a sign on the trail to Pixie Falls.

That makes a lot of sense. Between that and the Nipmuck/Wampanoag/Massasoit place names having less intuitive pronunciations can make it a challenge …fun fact as a mass native who studied English lit/history, I usually have two ways of pronouncing every town here.

Godsmack albums come from a retention pond behind a strip club in Worcester.
