Reagan talked of Star Wars and domes.
Dotard talks like radar and interceptors could eliminate all threats.
But NORAD, weather radar, and other advance warning systems are defunded?

Half a concept can't fly far in that brick head until it hits something stupid..

the middle powers with a bit of a quandary. The backbone of NATO has been US defense spending on Five Eyes, NORAD and satellites, specifically for intelligent gathering and early threat detection.

Moving forward, these capabilities are going to be either suspect and unreliable or (worst case)

Skynet or WHOPR style deciding to shoot is right out, AI in NORAD saying it detects launches that don't exist runs into other systems saying "nope don't see a thing."
October 1, 2026 at 6:48 PM
Do you think Cyberdyne was constantly informing people that Skynet in beta kept saying “well I’d blow you up and if that didn’t do the job then id launch skeletal deathbots,” and whoowhee sure hope we buff that out before replacing NORAD?

The punch cards was a blast from my past. I learned to be a data entry tech when punch cards were the latest thing. Years later when I was a logistics manager for the AF for phased array radars tied to NORAD, that was the technology used to run everything. Now a smartphone has more computing power.

Trump has said he intends to annex Canada as America’s 51st state. Concomitantly Canada’s military is well into planning how to deal with a U.S. military invasion, while ironically sitting side-by-side with the American military in Colorado Springs within the NORAD treaty

This diagram is amazing. I've never seen something broken down quite this detailed in an official report. It shows exactly how long it would take to get bombers and missiles off the ground after a launch was detected. The question mark for delay for "PRESIDENT" is fascinating! More in the alt text.

Operation Tundra Merlin is an enduring U.S.-Canadian homeland-defense operation in the Alaskan Theater of Operations, rather than a single exercise. Under USNORTHCOM and ALCOM, it integrates U.S. forces assigned to NORAD and USNORTHCOM with Canadian forces and other mission partners.
