Newsletter is from over a year ago! But still applies. A more recent example, was the number of empty chairs at the Nommos ceremony at WorldCon Glasgow last year, because most of the nominees for Africa's prestigious science fiction prize couldn't get a visa or found it prohibitively expensive.
