Canada’s secular foundation helps protect everyone’s freedom of belief, including the freedom not to believe.

Religious freedom works best when government does not favour one faith over another, or religion over nonreligion.

Useful framework to explain late stages of #secularization: "In some contexts, the cultural 'default' among the young is no longer religion but 'nonreligion' ... it is the religious whose beliefs & identities depart from those legitimated & authorized by the sacred secular canopy" (p.2, 16).

Watchmen is one of those texts. Behind the masks, alternate history, and moral conflict are questions about belief, authority, human nature, and meaning-making. It is a story that may reveal as much about nonreligion as it does about religion.
