#secularism

Even if we constrain ourselves to merely progressive and modern virtues like egalitarianism and humanism, Elon Musk is the lowest sinner, a living Antichrist to secularism
my most pronounced small-c conservative conviction is that a society worth living cannot survive without some meaningful conception of virtue in the classical sense, and for that reason anti-virtue sociopolitical edgelordism of the sort that has come from Musk et al needs to be punished
Men (and I say 'men' intentionally here) like Musk have severely damaged the moral order with their actions -- and the rest of society (esp other elites) has damaged it further by indulging them. They must be held to account in order to restore it and end the corrosive fact of elite impunity.

hello secularism my old friend
I’ve come to talk higher order critical thinking skills again
THIS JUST IN: Democrats have FLIPPED the Texas State Board of Education!

This is a monumental win for Texas students, families, and the entire education community in our great state.

Congratulations to our incredible candidates!

Is this perhaps convergent evolution as a result of greater secularism making British politicians uncomfortable with explicit appeals to spiritual reasons for why sex is corruptive and dangerous and needs to be tightly limited and controlled?

I would argue not in the way presented here. It is basically completely non religious.

If anything, Norway’s long-term secularism has shaped its culture.

Is something that talks about "one nation under god" really laicist? Imo the US is extremly religious. There's ni real commitment to any form of secularism(laicism) I can see there.

IMO the main difference I'd make between French secularism and "atheism as a religion" is the degree to which French secularism is implicitly Christian, and favorable towards personal expressions of (mainly Catholic) Christian faith

“You can’t get a TT academic job because no one cares about early modern religion,” they said. “Secularism is the order of the day,” they said.
What!
The White House has issued a Reformation Day proclamation, of all things.

With this not being part of ordinary lives, you also start to understand the emergence of modern secularism much better. The conditions for having access to a certain kind of faith simply don't exist with the above removed.

*continuity in this case would mean the usual presumption that children

Just read your post and watched the video. I'm truly moved by the fantasy that my arguments on secularism may have been read by @abdulelsayed.bsky.social who's so eloquent a teacher on secularism. It is a fantasy, but a heartwarming one for me - thank you! From Paris, I wish him the best on Tuesday.

Reading this after I'm done with Francesca Albanese's book.
Really enjoying this scholarship on translation, secularism and religion.

"Chilliness towards the Jewish state" We should be actively hostile to any ethnostate. Ethnostates are an affront to democracy and secularism. I'm not even a liberal, why am I better at litigating liberal theory than liberals are?
Polls show the majority of Michigan Jewish voters voted for El-Sayed, but that has not stopped the endless "Jewish voters concerned" narratives.

I'm sure some are concerned. But one could just as easily write, "American Jews embrace Muslim Senatorial candidate in display of American pluralism."

Xenophobia, Islamophobia, fear of difference obstruct secularism, whilst the nefarious desire of politicians to preserve power & cultural dominance may turn ignorant citizens' fear into law.

That's why Bible & hymns are pushed into schools, IN VIOLATION of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights!

Texas and SC have gloated how so many Californians fled to their state. It was because of cheap housing. They brought their secularism and sensibilities with them. Ya welcome bitches!

Why do you think coping about reality is what matters? Secularism doesn't need to give people made up bullshit to feel better about the world, we need cold hard truth. CHRISTIANITY, AS A WHOLE, is bleeding followers. You cannot even face the facts because your religion blinds you.

Muslim women are a favourite scapegoat for at least the last 30 years, it is not a question of secularism but of racism.
October 31, 2026 at 12:41 PM
Unfortunately, secularism is a theoretical concept that is not applicable in reality

The way to think of this is that Trump was always a deadweight on the GOP but in 2016 he made some smart moves on medicare, social security and secularism, in 2018 had a good economy, in 2020 had an opponent that barely campaigned, and in 2022 & 2024 opponents overseeing a bad economy
1. Here are some takeaways from last night’s election.

• First, the numbers. NBC News projects that the Democrats will take as many as 259 seats in the US House, 54 in the US Senate. Senate races in Alaska and Mississippi are still undecided. If Dems prevail there, bring the Senate total to 56.

It's about defending the rights of people who don't believe what you believe.

Different paths. Equal rights. Shared humanity.

That's an America worth fighting for. 🇺🇸
