#NoseWork
a very tricky suspended spider hide in nosework today.

(to get the dogs used to working through weirdness, they had to wear a "costume" today so Tallie kept on her kerchief from the groomer this morning 😂)

I just got my certification as an obedience trainer a few years ago. Then my need to find out more kicked in. Turns out (after many books being read) that chewing and sniffing are soothing to dogs. I've seen dogs fall asleep with chews in their mouths! And canine nosework is a sport.

I recorded their nosework that I did with both pups today. It was a beautiful sunny and windy day in the backyard. Eris did really well today. She’s as good as Koda now at gloves. Koda starts today…

Fun and different to have a Nosework Trial at a baseball stadium. Unusual searches where air movement creates tons of challenges for the seasoned dogs.
I always walk away with greater respect for the K9 Detection Dogs and the training behind them, especially when the day was hard.

Eris’s nosework session today she went first there’s a huge man going first you can kind of get the easy ones that are putting off better scent cones

also for anyone concerned: he IS on a leash - it's a longline so we can practice nosework, but i had it rolled up short in my hand when we were close to the bluffs

The pups are relaxing now I did nosework with them this morning. Every search needs to take at least one minute so they are fully working their brains. I probably missed that mark on some of them. 1/4

Prior to nosework, he was flat, even depressed. He just never did anything nor expressed himself. With nosework , he blossomed & learned to be a dog. We loved to compete, but he also learned to love just sniffing his environment. Every blade of grass became important !

💟 Amazingly, that was his registered name. While I mostly think they deserve new names for a new life, it was just too good to change! Pretty sure it was a reference to the golfer Fred “BoomBoom” Couples. BB’s littermates all had “golf” names too. This is us with our level 2 nosework 😊

Only scanned the article as yet, but I LOVE Alexandra Horowitz, & anything that references her work is aces to me. My first greyhound, BoomBoom changed my life (and his!) when we started sport nosework classes.

I became a certified nosework instructor, and am now also a judge and certifying official at competitions. It is an absolute joy to see the dogs work & teach the humans what they are capable of.

yes, you know I got into a habit of going to the same places because they’re just so amazing but I realize they like to go somewhere different too just like all of us so it was good for them to get to go somewhere different. I’m blown away by how good they are at nosework. Dogs are incredible.

The pups and I had a great time. right off the freeway and 3 acres to hide their nosework in. You can park right inside the sniff spot. Fully fenced no other dogs could be heard or seen. 3 Acre Fully Fenced Drive-In Secluded Park In North Redmond

Thank you, Luna puppies have a Sniffspot today. It’s not one of the great ones. It’s one of the ones that I can do nosework at you can actually park inside the fully fenced spot.

My dog nosework trial was not canceled and around 45 of us are soaking wet in Delaware like weirdos

It's been five years and I was out of town, so I don't have much hope. I think it was Fate's way of telling me that my dog was too old anymore to compete in nosework trials.

Containers sniff and go yesterday. This is Tallie waiting right outside the start line for the first one- I'm pretty sure she was sorting out where the hides were during the wait because when I gave the command she bee-lined to the first one immediately and then found the second one a moment later.

Something funny is that apparently my doggie nosework trial will be in the noreaster and has not yet been canceled. I feel like I don't need to go this extreme with the dog sports enthusiasm
