#OCLCresearch has recently explored how AI can reshape cataloging and metadata workflows, but how does it apply to non-English languages, including Arabic?

⤵️ In this #HangingTogether blog, OCLC's Omar Farhoud describes a different set of conditions.
No edge case: Understanding AI opportunities through Arabic metadata workflows | Hanging Together, the OCLC Research Blog
Recent discussions on the OCLC Research blog have explored how artificial intelligence (AI) is beginning to reshape cataloging and metadata workflows, particularly in addressing backlogs and improving efficiency. Conversations like these, however, are often grounded in environments where English-language metadata dominates. Bringing in a Middle Eastern perspective, especially from Arabic-speaking libraries, introduces a different set of conditions shaped by multilingual practice, script diversity, and issues of representation. Arabic metadata workflows are not edge cases. They represent everyday operational realities across academic, national, and public libraries in the region. As such, they provide a valuable lens through which to examine both the opportunities and the limits of AI in library systems, including the interplay between automated workflows and human oversight.

Is Ernest Hemingway the most famous 20th-century American novelist? That was the claim of a recent article, but what is the most reliable data source?

⤵️ Read our latest #OCLCresearch study to learn why library catalog data offers a more complete picture.
The Importance of Being Ernest Hemingway: Measuring Literary Popularity and Impact with WorldCat Data | OCLC
Ernest Hemingway is the most famous 20th-century American novelist, according to a recent article in The Economist. What is the evidence? Among other things, the article cites Wikipedia traffic data, noting that Hemingway’s page has accumulated more than 30 million views over the past 10 years (the second-ranked author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, attracted less than half that total). But is this truly the most reliable data source for understanding an author’s popularity, and can library catalog data offer us a more complete picture?
