An intensifying storm system will move into the Plains today, bringing strong winds, locally heavy rain, and scattered severe thunderstorms with a risk of damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes.

For the latest outlooks check spc.noaa.gov and weather.gov for any watches or warnings.
Severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon & evening across Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas Primary Risks: Scattered T-storms will pose a risk of large hail, severe gusts, and tornadoes. A strong tornado or two is possible across southern Kansas and central to northern Oklahoma where storm coverage will be greatest. Timing: 3 - 7 PM CST: Storms will develop across southern KS into Oklahoma and northern TX. Primary risks will be tornadoes & large hail. 7 - 11 PM CST: Storms will spread eastward across KS, OK, and TX. Primary risks will be tornadoes & severe wind. Safety Actions: Continue to monitor forecasts for the latest information and updates to the risk areas. Be prepared to take action if watches and warnings are issued for your area. Oct. 30, 1979: An F3 #tornado destroyed two mobile homes near Newport, OK. Teresa Carroll was killed, and her daughter Sadie died days later. Jimmie Lee Bob was killed by flying debris outside the home. Two others were injured.
