Next stop: Tokyo! 🇯🇵

After this amazing week of collaboration at the OME-Zarr hackathon, I'm off to Japan for my first ISO meeting on microscopy metadata, representing @gerbi-gmb.de — Opportunities to bring together perspectives from across the world are so critical. Thanks to one and all! 🌍 🌎 🌏

Open the files your instruments write. Right in your browser.

Microscopy images, HCS plates and whole slides. OME-TIFF, CZI, Opera Phenix, Yokogawa, SVS, NDPI, MRXS, DICOM and more. Nothing to install, nothing to convert. Built on OME-Zarr.

Note: there will be **no OME-Zarr office hours this week** as we prepare for the next week's OME-Zarr hackathon. *But* the good news is, it's a great time to learn about OME-Zarr: the "State of OME-Zarr" presentations from the hackathon can be attended remotely! Details in thread:
Are you curious about current developments in OME-Zarr? Want to get an overview of how the specification is evolving through the current RFCs? Or hear what people are working on with OME-Zarrs?
Join us virtually next Monday, November 2nd, 2pm CET for the intro talks of the OME-Zarr hackathon

Microscopy and astronomy

- Multichannel OME-Zarr and OME-TIFF: channel contrast, z-slices, time points
- Draw regions or click cells to classify them, export GeoJSON that QuPath reads
- FITS cutouts with science/reference/difference triplets for vetting transients

📣 The first version of RFC-10: NGFF Governance and the Editorial Board is now live, and we are inviting the community to comment on the proposal and shape its final form. If you build or use OME-Zarr, we would love your feedback!

As part of that, on Monday afternoon, November 2nd from 2pm CET onwards, we'll have an exciting set of introduction presentations about the state of OME-Zarr, current OME-Zarr RFCs (change proposals to the spec) and topic pitches to be worked on at the hackathon.

Is anything missing from this proposal? We want to hear from implementers, tool developers, and users!

Next week, November 2nd to 6th, we're hosting the 4th annual OME-Zarr hackathon in Zurich, bringing over 60 developers together to push the next generation file format specification for bioimaging forward together.

Why now? The road to OME-Zarr 1.0 involves several interdependent technical decisions, some of them requiring a clear yes or no.

RFC-1 had only pencilled in a single editor, @joshmoore.bsky.social. To move forward at pace, we need a defined group of people with a clear mandate to make decisions.

We took a break from advertising these but we are still holding weekly OME-Zarr office hours! Ask @jni.codes or @joshmoore.bsky.social anything about OME-Zarr on Thu Oct 22 at 9am Paris / 12:30pm Delhi / 6pm Sydney. Full details and zoom link at:

No, unfortunately that is out-of-scope for the funding call. It's dedicated funding to create data corpora based on existing data. Our main goals are: i) (meta-)data standardization (based on OME-Zarr work), ii) quantifying how a given dataset affects (foundation) model training,

1. I remember Nicole’s talk at the OME-Zarr community meeting last year, it was indeed so epic that I still remember being blown away by it.
2. Fun to spot a @talley.codes and a @janfunkey.bsky.social hanging out there too. Jealous. 😊
