I haven’t come across contumacy before. Wilful disobedience of the church authority. The mind boggles. Unsure. Interesting about your ancestors. Nonconformity? #OnePlaceWednesday

Do you have a vague plan for your #OnePlaceStudy or are you a more focused planner? I’m a combination - I have a focused plan, but then my butterfly brain meanders off along its own winding road…

Finally planning out a #oneplacestudy that I've been wanting to do for years now. The "blessing and curse" freedom in planning is really hitting me! How did you narrow down your time/place for your project? What would you do different if you started over? #oneplacewednesday #oneplacestudies

It has been a while since we last checked on Suzie Morley’s Debenham One-Place Study website. The study now covers, in addition to Debenham in #Suffolk, a dozen places around it, with an on online tree in which there are nearly 25,000 people! #OnePlaceWednesday

I think one of The Society’s shared endeavours was about founding families… If it wasn’t a shared endeavour there’s definitely a YouTube video about it in our members area.

How intriguing..I wonder why she was excommunicated… My ancestors were excommunicated because they refused to conform to strict new High Church regulations imposed by the local bishop. His wife was forcibly carried out of the church & died a few months later

I started by collecting census info, have made a start on births/baptisms, marriages & deaths/burials as a sort of scoping exercise, then started with a mini-project & built out from there. I second the advice above from @oneplacestudies.bsky.social

It might be helpful in the early stages of your #OnePlaceStudy to narrow your focus to a place (or a community) within your place, and/or to a time period, based on what most interests you, or on which records are easiest to access and/or work with. #OnePlaceWednesday

This week’s ‘A Name in the Records’ follows the fragments of her life.
