#Overbuild
This is lazy reporting. Gartner estimated the overbuild for Neo-clouds to require 8 tn in revenue over 3 years, but estimated the market at 3.9 tn. It looked like the hyper-scalers were looking for any reason to stop building.

So... No, it isn't the Democrats' fault.

RAM specifically is just incumbents gunshy after massive overbuild last time around

Nationalize SpaceX satellite service, choke off his reseal money. stop is data center overbuild. He’s already renting it space and stated that GrokBot spend is unsustainable.

That veto cost us our solarpv industry, as Chinas companies has access to endless credit, so they overbuild, and kept selling below market prices. It was dumping.

we got subway systems out of the last great structural overbuild (railroads) so i don't doubt that

It’s more about the overbuild and overspend. All that money for what? AI slop?

6/ The brain didn't need to change at all.

Fly brains overbuild a class of partner neurons, and the extras die when they find nothing to connect to. Given something to connect to, they lived, and wired to the correct subtype on the first try, with no further genetic change.

The '90s internet overbuild worked out because dark fiber could be usefully lit up later.

GPU farms are single-use & short-lived.

"The [AI] compute it was renting became less useful because it no longer fit Microsoft's specifications. The Oracle hardware used older-generation Nvidia chips."

Anti scientific computing is a weird pivot. Oh no, don’t overbuild machines that can model every problem in the universe, if you go bankrupt we’ll have tons of extra for students to use for almost free

Breaking news: Tech stocks chalked up their biggest one-day drop since the Covid pandemic following the Democrats’ sweeping midterm elections victory that upended Wall Street’s mammoth AI bet. ft.trib.al/Hsenhxn

They aren’t necessary. The techbros always overbuild. If they really needed them they would be screaming and relocating.

Pretty much every all-renewable energy grid you can pencil out imply a very high level of curtailment, and the higher VRE penetration you get, the more curtailment you need. The eye-poppingly low solar energy prices you see don't look quite as good when you need to overbuild so much.

The outcome is obvious, they're going to overbuild. They'll have excess capacity.
Plus the AI will become more efficient requiring less megastructures.

WE MUST STOP BUILDING BEYOND AREA RESOURCES
You're not helping anyone by paving over all wildlife habitat,
or by building so many houses that you can't provide water.

Homeowners are overcharged and threatened with water shortages when you overbuild.

Wildlife endangered.

But we should all note that even after the massive corporate overbuild and bankruptcies of the railroads and telecoms, we still at the end had trains and the internet.

We’re overbuilding data centres to serve the ambitions of delusion AI CEOs, and that brings real consequences for communities.

I went on The Tech Report to discuss my new book HYPERSCALE and why we can’t let the tech industry chart our collective future.

But those were expensive, ecologically destructive mistakes. Now we can plan better and overbuild less. I fear they may be trying to lock us in to helping their desperate search for a net-profitable app. Which may not exist.

Overbuild risk lands hardest on places that import the compute. Countries planning local capacity should stage it against real demand, such as signed public-sector workloads, rather than headline megawatts.
October 31, 2026 at 10:03 AM
Except, that's not true. You're basically rehashing the same capex overbuild cycle arguments from the 90s telecom and dark-fiber boom. Front-loaded investments will not all pan out and there will be many companies that go under. But calling it all a "scam" is totally missing the whole thing.

There is going to be a massive overbuild and us citizens are going to be left holding the bill for the cleanup.
