What do folks think about partitioning hypervisors (that's where the exact host resources are divided up, so each CPU is linked to exactly one guest, no overcommitment)?

100%, I think this is the core problem, a lot of the friendship decay and discussions of it are usually portrayed and presented in a way where it's usually like "all or nothing"- situation, which I admit has in a way or another skewed my views too, I realize I have a tendency for overcommitment

CPU overcommitment is intentional. Most VMs don't use 100% CPU simultaneously. Hypervisors schedule vCPUs across physical cores. 4:1 ratio is normal. 10:1 without monitoring is reckless.

i don't at all see it. there's such a grotesque overcommitment of resources that would be make-or-break for any great power conflict, and the comprehensive pantsing of the US's allies in the gulf has been terrible for cohesion and is likely to create actual, unpluggable theater logistic holes
