There's no way to say this without sounding like an ecofascist (which I'm not), but humans are responsible for species extinction. It's good to get rid of invasive species that we brought, but we should also address climate change, habitat loss, overexploitation, pollution, and disease.

There's no way to say this without sounding like an ecofascist (which I'm not), but humans are responsible for species extinction. It's good to get rid of invasive species that we brought, but we should also address climate change, habitat loss, overexploitation, pollution, and disease.
The current mass extinction, known as the Sixth Mass Extinction, is primarily driven by human activities such as habitat destruction, climate change, overexploitation, pollution, and the introduction of invasive species.

Sharks are slow to mature and reproduce, leaving them vulnerable to overexploitation. Conservation has done wonders for some species but many are still in decline. So if you see a shark in the beach… get excited!!

2/2 The interesting thing here is that these shells comes from a late Neolithic shell midden (2,200 BC), and their shape tells us about the different exploited shore zones. Smaller + flatter shells can even highlight overexploitation events, as people had to go farther down the shore.
