#Overprepping
Argh I don't think I even started that segment in Warframe, I've been so blindsided by overprepping my loadouts!

What stage of overprepping for Daggerheart is it when you're writing IF/AND/OR statements for your combat scenario?

For over 2 months I've been prepping my next #rpg campaign, and lately I keep saying "you gotta stop, gonna make it less fun for yourself." Today, I restructured my factions to work like in #Mausritter to add dynamicity to the world. So much for not overprepping, but my factions are so dope now

Yea, we still got 60" last year, which is about half "normal" from a decade ago.

I don't have a daily commute any more, so it's way less of a bigger concern for me now too.

I may road-trip during the holidays, so I'm overprepping with that in mind.

Some might say i'm overprepping my #DnD campaign. But it's the only way i feel comfortable.

Right now i'm working on chapter 4 while my players just started with chapter 2.

>"As a GM: build it however is fun for you, and fuck all guidance otherwise."

100% agree!

However, do you think this might still be a good point of advice to help people avoid burnout?

Overprepping/wasted prep seems to be a big issue for a lot of GMs.

Does this help GMs figure what to prep?

Yeah absolutely. Usually i start out by overprepping SO MANY bones at the outset that i can coast for a while within that framework.

Also:"I need to own all 28 world books and read them completely or I can't run the game" is just a different form of overprepping in that pattern.

The wildest part is that the knowledge didn't open most GMs up to improvising with this encyclopedic knowledge, no they'd have to prep each scene too.
Possibly the hardest thing to explain to younger TTRPG folk is just how hard it was for GMs in the habit of radical over-preparation in the 90s and early 00s to grasp "No, you can just frontload hot choices and let go".

And I don't just mean "from the Forge", though obviously, but all over.

...

November pictures! Felt this month was one of the best in terms of having a idea and then delivering on the photo. Essentially overprepping for the "its always something" screw-ups worked out well.

Is there such a thing as overprepping? @/////@

Like they are overprepping to shit.

I have been waiting for my paycheck, which I just got today and... there's nothing! They took so much shit its insane.
I have so far managed to scrounge up some small cheap pizzas. I am so mad.

Dos mesmos produtores de overengineering, me encontro no overprepping pra primeira sessão da mesa. Se ajudar na ansiedade, tá valendo!

New Yorkers are probably overprepping for the snowstorm but if it keeps people from ordering every meal from UberEats in the middle of it, that's good in my book
January 25, 2026 at 2:20 PM
obviously consider some clear things they'll do and have maps ready and such for that, this isn't saying completely ignore the players but "overprepping" is only a concern as far as the players are concerned, you can world build really as much as you want
September 8, 2023 at 2:44 PM
I usually go character by character and write a paragraph or two of what I think they might get up to and any relevant NPCs for said shenanigans.

For combat I do all the usual planning and stats

But overprepping is absolutely a thing and you should stay flexible and ready to pivot based on players

What game got the easiest from overprepping? Consumables, Buffs and the like.
March 7, 2026 at 1:54 PM
Either this is a "X will remember that" as in implying me succumbing to my laziness will have consequences - which is scary but I hate that about me too...

OR you're interested about me mentioning DnD - which, thanks to me being an overprepping forever-DM, only gives me small flashbacks 🙈

Today's first .hack//Quarantine stream making basically zero progress because they Virus Core gate you immediately is funny.

Really its the game getting back at me for overprepping the previous games so there was minimal farming.

Anyway I'm now overprepping.

After 30 years of running ttrpgs, I've done all the classic mistakes. but I think one of the best lessons I learned was to stop overprepping. I got together with a friend and did regular fully improvised solo sessions few years ago. Was really helpful to get over that threshold.

I have what seems to me to be a similar stutter, and the debate seems easily explained by a stutter, being sick, and overprepping for a debate.

The problem with overprepping is it wastes time and leads to less than snappy rebuttals in an era where 7 second memes reign supreme, to the extent this matters at all (not much).
